Thanks for asking about this. This is a really good question. We thought, in fact, when we started selling these over 10 years ago that these flow meters would be highly susceptible to iron and other mineral buildup.
These meters have about the lowest level of tech or sales support among our parts, and we rarely hear of failures in them. On the other hand, they have very easy-to-use unions, and they're very easy to remove and clean. We recommend periodic cleaning with a citric or muriatic acid solution to clean out any buildup.
Perhaps once a year, remove the meter from the pipe and then inspect and clean it out. We also carry registers so the meter can be serviced. Later, if the register fails, you can change that. We sold very few of those, in very few parts of these, and we sold many hundreds over the years.
