What’s the Difference Between Pro-OX and Pro-OX Lite?
Both Pro-OX and Pro-OX Lite are high-performance iron filtration media, but they differ in composition, weight, and suitability for different water treatment setups.
Pro-OX
- Material: Made from naturally mined ore with a very high manganese dioxide content (about 80% by weight).
- Filtration Capability: Extremely effective at removing iron, manganese, and hydrogen sulfide (rotten egg odor).
- Durability: Long-lasting media that typically lasts 10 years or more.
- Requirements: Requires a higher backwash flow rate due to its heavier weight.
- Best For: High iron or manganese levels, systems using air injection, hydrogen peroxide, or chlorine, and situations where maximum performance and durability are needed.
Pro-OX Lite
- Material: A lighter-weight catalytic media with a manganese dioxide coating over a lighter substrate. It is a private-labeled version of Pyrolox Advantage.
- Filtration Capability: Also effective at removing iron and manganese, though not quite as robust as solid Pro-OX.
- Durability: Good performance with slightly shorter media life compared to Pro-OX.
- Requirements: Requires a lower backwash flow rate, making it suitable for homes with limited water pressure or flow.
- Best For: Moderate iron or manganese levels and installations where water pressure or available flow for backwashing is limited.
Summary
Use Pro-OX when you want the strongest and longest-lasting iron removal media and have the water flow needed to backwash it properly. Use Pro-OX Lite when you need effective iron removal but are limited by water pressure or flow, or when a lighter media is preferred for easier handling and backwashing.
